Rickshaw Driver, Girls' Education, Peshawar, Arab Shah

A 29-year-old rickshaw driver from Peshawar, Pakistan, becomes an inadvertent local hero after he begins providing free transportation to school-going girls in his youth home. He started this undertaking 6 years ago in order to advance education in Peshawar for local girls.

Arab Shah

His name is Arab Shah. Shah was initially inspired to launch his business because his sisters were stranded without access to transport, which prevented them from furthering their studies. Although his business was initially launched to support his family, he now hopes that it will, in fact, help other passionate women.

When asked the source of his inspiration for starting this service, Shah responded with;

“My sisters did not have a facility for transport, due to which they were unable to complete their education. I started this service so that these girls do not miss out on education as my sisters have suffered.”

Arab Shah added,  I would like more individuals to pursue their education,  given that no one from the government supports him. Shah also informed, After dropping students to school, I undergo rickshaw work for long hours, which benefits my livelihood.

He added, “All this gives me spiritual satisfaction.”

He wants to purchase more rickshaws, so he can provide free service to as many girls as possible, so no one ever has to skip her education and her school to earn money.

Even Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani education activist has praised and expressed gratitude for him. She has even endorsed his effort in promoting women’s education in Pakistan. According to reports, the father of Malala Yousafzai contacted him by phone. He expressed interest in contributing towards the purchase of a minivan on her behalf.
