Here’s a moment of pride for all Pakistanis! Arooj Aftab, a vocalist, becomes the first Pakistani ever to be featured at Times Square, New York. She has gained immense popularity with her beautiful renditions. She also became the first Pakistani to get the Grammy!

Arooj’s Grammy was in the category of Best Global Performance. She won this award for ‘Mohabbat’ which was produced and written by her too! The girl is certainly an aspiration for many out there. She also performed some beautiful renditions for Coke Studio in Pakistan. These songs got immense hits and likes from her fans. Her success speaks of how there are limitless possibilities for everyone out there. Pakistanis are certainly awestruck.

People went crazy when they saw her featured as Artist of the Month by Spotify. Her picture and details were featured on a digital billboard in the heart of New York. This was a part of a global initiative of Spotify called ‘EQUAL’. The purpose of this campaign is to bring women artists to a global level and have them appreciated for their work. Spotify is one of the world’s most used audio streaming platforms.

Arooj Aftab has been based in New York for more than 15 years. She is adored slowly and gradually by listeners. Her uniqueness lies in blending jazz, sufi, minimalism and folk style music in her renditions. Arooj’s hard work has helped her reach this stage where she received the most prestigious music trophy on a song penned in Urdu language.
