Punjab police has launched a mobile application that will track and find stolen phones, which will help in restricting the resale of stolen cellphones.

In collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board, the Lahore Police has developed the e-Gadget Monitoring System app that will be available for download on Google Playstore and Apple Store, free of cost.

Any smartphone seller will be able to check used phones before purchasing using e-Gadget to verify if the phone is stolen or not, using the IMEI number. If the phone is stolen, the application will automatically send the notification to the police department and the department can file the FIR right away.

According to the law department, the sale of stolen phones has increased due to the fact that data on stolen phones is not accessible or stored online. The application will help tackle that problem as well.
