History & Development of Malam Jabba

The Malam Jabba saga started in the mid 1970s when the tourism authorities in Pakistan realized the proven potential of this mountain top spot. The project, spearheaded by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), envisaged that there would be a ski resort that would map Pakistan in the international world of winter sports.

Austrian designs were key contributory factors to the development of even the portraits of the resort, and foreign partnerships were a source of technical assistance to develop ski infrastructure and in training programmes. The first stage involved simple ski lifts, renting the gear and even staying in places that were the first introduction of winter time recreation in the Pakistan mountains.

Notwithstanding the regional unrest, especially in earlier years, Malam Jabba was significantly rebounding following the year 2010. Large-scale renovation and expansions brought forth modern chair lifts and exciting zip lines, and added modernised accommodative facilities that have made the resort into a modern destination. Location & Accessibility

Malam Jabba is about 314 kilometers away on a scenic 6-7 hour drive from Islamabad. The tour travels the Islamabad-Mardan motorway and then it splits off to Mingora and then into the mountains to the resort.

Special winter accessibility will have other preparation, contaminated by snow-laying roads, snow chains are needed, and, preferably four-wheel-drive cars. Although treacherous in snow, the twisty mountain track is rewarded by more and more spectacular views the higher one gets.

The trekking opportunities are immense through alpine meadows, and the chair lift has great views in the valley. Summer camping in star studded skies leaves behind memories that are magical besides, city lights and pollution.

Spring is a wildflower season when the mountains burst into blossom in good weather conditions which allows taking photographs because of a perfect sky and tolerable temperatures. Autumn is a good time of the year, it is less crowded, yet has the crisp, cold and golden forests coloring.

Early in the morning is the best time to visit, the lighting is just perfect, and there are none, or very few, people.

Skiing & Snowboarding at Malam Jabba

The ski slopes in Malam Jabba are of beginner and intermediate grade and thus altogether it fits in best in terms of family trip and those new to skiing. The groomed slopes in the resort are good learning grounds with trained instructors on-hand to offer ski and snowboarding basics.
