To epitomize the amazing sheer glory of nature, Deosai Plains is a picturesque spot located at an altitude more than 13000 feet above sea level on the edge of Skardu and Astore districts; an appropriate agency of nature as far as the area is concerned, so appropriately is the place popularly referred to as the Land of the Giants.

Deosai Plains is not just a simple geological point but an amazing place where the clock has stopped and the modern world became a forgotten thing. Being one of the most elevated plateau on the globe, this climbing heaven turns significantly with every season. It is covered with deep snow in the severity of winter but in the spring summer, it becomes alive into a beautiful canvas of wildflowers, crystal clear lakes, and golden rolling plains.

The deep silence is what actually makes Deosai stand out among the other mountain destinations. In this case, a lack of human presence provides a surreal atmosphere, and the only thing one can hear is the soft rustles of winds coming down the mountains and merry chirping of the golden marmots. There are no concrete buildings spoiling the view and no city noise ruining the silence but only vast expanses of skies with hills upon hills as the horizon.
The plateau is habitat to some of Pakistanis rare wildlife forms with the grand Himalayan brown bear along with the others, this plateau is not only a feast to the sight but also an ecology of great significance.

The road to Skardu is roughly 2-3 hours along Sadpara Road, but it should be respected, off-roading vehicles, or rough jeeps are a must especially in the early summer season when snow melts, and the tracks become slippery.
To those with more time, an alternative route is possible through Chilim through Astore Valley, affording a different view over such an amazing landscape. The geographical access of Deosai to major territories of Gilgit-Baltistan renders it as a perfect resting place where tourists can blend adventure at high altitude with a lot of loneliness.
The plateau has a number of interesting attractions surrounding it and the visit of the plateau becomes more interesting. Sheosar Lake is the jewelled crown--a reflection on the snow-capped mountains against the crystal waters of a mirror-like glacier lake. Sadpara Lake, and the Bara Pani and Kala Pani are beautiful gateways to the plains and such places are ideal to carry out camping along with wildlife study.
Ali Malik Top, the top point and the highest motorable point on the plain rewards people with panoramic views to the extent even beyond imaginations. They trail different ambiances, at Bara Pani, there is excitement all over, whereas Kala Pani is remote and silent.
Such lack of commercial development can be defined as one of the most attractive features of Deosai. This policy of no-commercial zone makes the place to be in its pure and natural state, and visitors must come with this in mind. The closest markets are available at Skardu Bazaar where visitors can supply themselves with the groceries, camping equipment, fresh vegetables, and famous dry fruits of the region.
To those who come in through the Astore route, there are mini-shops, gas and simple eateries in the town. Sadpara village offers street tea spots and last-minute necessities.
The food in Deosai is an adventure in the wilderness. Food is best had picnic-style around crackling camp-fires with local breads and cheese, healthy mix of dried fruit, and traditional Balti tea under the sky filled with stars. To make the tour even better some of the operators set up organized camps where meals are included and provide such delicacies as fresh trout, spicy chicken karahi and soups cooked in the wild.
