Naran is a small mountain town located in the upper part of Kaghan Valley, within Mansehra District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It lies along the Kunhar River and is often the first major stop for travelers heading deeper into the northern areas. For a lot of tourists, Naran is not the last stop, but the first stop on their journey through the larger Naran Kaghan area.

Naran sits at an elevation of around 2,409 meters above sea level. This height defines much of its character. Mountains surround the town on all sides, and the nearby river keeps the air cooler throughout most of the year. Naran Valley has a fresh climate and beautiful views because it is high up, has flowing water, and is in an open valley.



Naran weather changes sharply with the seasons. Winters are long and severe, with frequent snowfall and temperatures that often fall below 0°C. From late autumn to early spring, road access can become limited, and tourist movement slows down significantly. During these months, a lot of hotels and other businesses either cut back on services or shut down for a short time.
Summer is the most active period in Naran. From June to September, Naran temperature stays noticeably cooler than cities in the plains. Days are generally comfortable, while evenings can feel cold, especially after rainfall. This pleasant climate is the main reason families and groups choose Naran as a summer escape.
Most visitors reach Naran by road via Balakot and Kaghan, following the Mansehra–Naran route. The journey includes forested stretches, river crossings, and mountain bends, making it scenic but sensitive to weather conditions.
